B-WAG 2010! Mark your calendars!!

May 1, 2010

Has it really been a whole year already?!? We are thrilled to announce B-WAG 2010 which will occur on Saturday, June 5, 2009 in Wrentham, MA at the Ladies Dog Club dog show and Airedale Terrier Club of New England Regional Specialty. This dog show is the biggest entry for the local show circuit for Airedale Terriers with typically 30 or so entered.

We will update this post with the ring time for Airedales when we have that information, however, typically Airedales are first thing in the morning starting around 8am.

What is B-WAG?
Why it’s the annual Boston-area Woodcrest Airedalers Get-together of course.

As you may know we try to hold an annual gathering for those who are interested in getting an Airedale puppy from Woodcrest and those who already have dogs from Woodcrest. The gathering is an excellent time for everyone to get questions answered from other Airedale owners and to see what dog shows are all about, of course we love having our own cheering section for our dogs too!

We try to make this event as central as possible to as many potential attendees as we can which means we try to hold it in or near the Boston area. Last year was our first time holding B-WAG at this outdoor dog show and it went so well we are looking forward to it more than ever! Everyone seemed to enjoy the atmosphere as well as the Airedales and we hope the fun will continue this year.

Where is B-WAG?
B-WAG coincides with the Ladies’ Dog Club dog show and Airedale Terrier Club of New England Regional Specialty which will be held at the:

Crackerbarrel Fairgrounds
Wrentham Developmental Center Emerald St
Wrentham, MA 02093

Directions (approximately 40 minutes from Boston):

From Rt. 95 North & South – Exit 6B to 495 North to Exit 15 (Rt. 1A). At end of ramp follow Route 1A North
for 3 miles; stay on Rt. 1A; go past the intersection of Rt. 140. Take left at blinking yellow light (North St.).
First left on Emerald St. to show grounds.

From West – Mass. Tpk. (Rt. 90) East to 495 South to Exit 15. Take left at end of ramp, follow directions
above.

This is an outdoor dog show and short of very extreme weather conditions it will be held rain or shine and we will be there regardless of the weather. You should check the weather before leaving and dress appropriately. Please bring sunscreen and hats in case of direct sun or rain coats, muck boots, and umbrellas in case of rain. There will be some tents for shade or protection from rain. You can bring your own lightweight folding chair to sit in (the ones that collapse into a carrying bag that you can sling over your shoulder are typical at such shows). Outdoor shows are always a lot of fun and will be a new experience for those that have attended our little gatherings in the past at indoor shows.

Since this is the Airedale Terrier Club of New England Regional Specialty there will be some added benefits of attending this show. There is typically a buffet style luncheon which costs a few dollars and the money goes into the club fund. Also, there is usually a silent auction of Airedale related memorabilia type items which you might be interested in. There is also concessions that have all types of dog stuff available for purchase that can be fun to walk through. There may be a small parking fee at this dog show, but I am unsure how much that would be at this time.

As always, unentered dogs are not allowed at dog shows which means that you should leave your own Airedales at home. This show is held in a field and ticks can be a problem, so this is probably best anyway. Also, sometimes the weather can be quite hot which would not be good for dogs left in the car. There has been some interest in a gathering where the dogs could attend and we will be happy to announce that if/when it happens, but it would need to be organized by someone closer to the area than we are.

For those looking to make a day of it, there is an amazing Outlet mall right in Wrentham. The Wrentham Village Premium Outlets consists of 170 outlet stores from Burberry and Hugo Boss to Coach, Gymboree, and Nike.

Please come! We look forward to seeing everyone and it will be a whole year before this show rolls around again now that the Boston show has moved locations we won’t see you in December as we have previously.

For traffic and parking reason you may want to plan to arrive early. Rings are marked with flags indicating the ring number. Set up your chairs wherever you feel comfortable outside the ring. We will be under the tent at the ring getting ready to show so please feel free to stop by and say hi before ring time. Everyone will watch the Airedales in the ring and after Airedales are done showing we can all get together and talk! We will have the RV at the show once again this year which is where everyone ended up congregating at last year’s event, so feel free to walk through the campers and find us there before or after the show.

If you plan to attend please shoot us an email, comment on this post, or RSVP to the Facebook Event invite to let us know so that we can keep an eye out for you. We look forward to seeing you there!

See what happened at last year’s B-WAG!

B-WAG 2009 (Ladies Dog Club Dog Show, Wrentham, MA)

June 2, 2009

We had such a great time at the dog show this weekend. We had a great turnout of 10 Airedale owners with puppies from Woodcrest and four potential future owners. It was great to see everyone and catch up.

Overall everyone seemed to really enjoy the new B-WAG show site gathering location, maybe even better than than at the indoor dog show we previously met at. It helped that the weather was just perfect, warm with enough clouds that the sun wasn’t overpowering for the dogs or the people. We are glad that everyone had a good time and will definitely keep this show for next years gathering.

Thank you to Bob Clarke for the following photos from Saturday:

B-WAG 2009

May 13, 2009

It’s that time of year again! We are pleased to announce B-WAG 2009 which will occur on Saturday, May 30, 2009 in Wrentham, MA at the Ladies Dog Club dog show and Airedale Terrier Club of New England Regional Specialty. There are over 30 Airedales entered at this show which is the biggest entry for the local show circuit with the exception of the National Airedale Specialty held in PA each year with roughly 130 Airedales.

We will update this post with the ring time for Airedales when we have that information, however, typically Airedales are first thing in the morning starting around 8am.
We now have the Airedale ring time, please scroll to the bottom of this post for the update.

For the past few years we have held B-WAG at the Bay Colony Cluster of dog shows at Bayside Expo in Boston during the month of December. However, that group of dog shows will not long be held at this location having been moved down to Providence which is considerably less convenient for everyone including us. For that reason we are trying the gathering at a new location and we will see how it goes.

Where is B-WAG?
The new location is:

Crackerbarrel Fairgrounds

B-WAG Success!

December 8, 2008

This year’s unofficial Boston-area Woodcrest Airedalers Get-together (B-WAG) was a raging success with more people visiting than we even expected.

The split was almost even between those that already have one or more Woodcrest Airedales and those hoping to get one from our next litter. We had a total of 13 people there to watch our girls in the ring and talk with afterward.  The group even picked up a few more bystanders interested in seeing Ava, this year’s showgirl extraordinAIRE, who was very good with everyone petting and talking to her.  Ava, who is used to being around Ari (age 22 months), even showed one group with three boys (aged maybe 2, 3, and 4ish?) what a great family pet an Airedale can make.

We hope that everyone enjoyed talking and getting questions answered. We find this type of open discussion great for new puppy owners to get advice and second opinions from others and for those hoping for puppies soon to see how others are getting along with our Airedales. Topics discussed included everything from ear gluing, Airedales and cats, choke/pinch collars, docking legislation, working and hunting Airedales, protecting paws from salt during winter, and pet grieving, right down to protecting the Christmas tree from those poky noses and WHERE’S WENDY!!!

Some notes from a couple of people who attended:

What a fun event. We really did enjoy meeting all the people day and your dogs. Thanks for answering all the questions we had as well. -On Wait List

[We] really enjoyed our morning at Bay Colony Dog Show yesterday. We learned much from the very happy and nice people who were there. Those who had gotten Airedales from Woodcrest
previously are very enthusiastic in support of the care and quality of your dogs and they clearly like working with you, as do we. -On Wait List

The sad news of the visit was that this is the last year that the Bay Colony Cluster of dog shows will be held at Bayside Expo Center in Boston, MA. Next year the show moves to Providence, RI which obviously puts a damper on the get-together. We did discuss the possibility of moving the gathering to the Wrentham, MA dog shows which are held about the last weekend in May or first weekend in June each year. These are outdoor dog shows (there are tents to shield from rain or hot sun) and the Ladies Dog Club show on Saturday also serves as the ATCNE Specialty show which generally sees more Airedale entries than the winter show. They also have a ringside buffet style luncheon following the judging as well as a silent auction of Airedale related items in order to raise some money. We think this will be a great alternative for our get-together.

Unfortunately, there are no other dog shows closer to Boston than this one. Wrentham is about 30 miles south-west of Boston. The thrifty shoppers out there might be enticed to make a day of it by the very large outlet center in the same town that has some great outlet stores (170 of them including BCBG, Burberry, Coach, Hugo Boss, and Ecco to name a few).  It’s one of our favorite shows for this reason!

Those early planners can go ahead and mark their calendars for B-WAG 2009 on Saturday, May, 30 2009!

2008 B-WAG Ringtime Update

December 1, 2008

We are so looking forward to meeting up with everyone at the Boston dog show on Saturday, December, 6th!

We now know the entry breakdown and ring time for Airedales. Airedales will be shown in Ring Number 11. Rings are well marked inside the building. There will be 7 puppies shown in Sweeps which will begin at 9:20AM and there will be 22 Airedales shown in Regular Classes which will begin at 9:40AM.  We suggest planning to arrive at 9am so that you have time to park and find the ring inside the building.

We plan to watch the Airedales in the ring and then have everyone gather afterward for open discussion.

Entry Breakdown:
7 Airedale Terriers Sweeps 4-3(0-0)0
22 Airedale Terriers 5-13(2-2)0

Please refer to the complete judging program if there are other breeds that you would like to see while at the show, along with additional details about the show.

Right now we tentatively have a good number of people who are hoping to attend.

Anyone in the area who would like to attend is more than welcome, all are invited. We look forward to it!

For more information, see our open invitation here:

2008 B-WAG (unofficial Boston-area Woodcrest Airedalers Get-together)

November 20, 2008

That’s right, it is that time of year again. The Eastern Dog Club dog show held at Bayside Expo Center in Boston, MA is just around the corner on Saturday, December, 6th, 2008. Mark your calendars!

We have always invited previous puppy buyers and potential future puppy buyers to this show. It is a great location and since this show also serves as the winter Airedale Terrier Club of New England supported entry show, you will see many Airedales in top condition. Last year we had 4 current owners of our Airedales and 6 potential owners (formerly waitlists, all are now current owners). Those lucky visitors were able to see our Tory, CH Woodcrest Torrential Envy, win four days in a row, four point majors each day, to finish her championship in a single weekend. They also saw Tory go Best of Opposite to the #1 Airedale BIS winner in history, CH Evermay’s High Performance, Max, who was also the sire of our 2008 Max x Tory litter which would follow several months later. Max retired at that show with his 52nd Best In Show win.

For anyone on our wait list or those interested in the possibility of an Airedale Terrier, this is an excellent opportunity to meet other Airedale owners, ask questions, see the dogs and their temperaments, and meet Airedale breeders. This show also has an excellent indoor Agility trial which is a lot of fun to watch as well as some special exhibits (in the past there has been a police dog demonstration, doggie dancing etc) and some interesting retail booths filled with fun doggie things.

This is a prestigious dog show, part of the Bay Colony Cluster, and will be made even better this year with the famous Terrier Handler turned AKC Judge Peter Green who will be judging Airedales on Saturday. Sweepstakes will be followed by regular classes and although the entry breakdown for this year has not been announced, last year there were 25 Airedales at the show. There are only two New England shows per year that you might see this many Airedales at and if you can’t make it to Montgomery (where you can upwards of 130 Airedales compete in a single day) this is a great alternative.

This is the first year that we are announcing this show as the unofficial Boston-area Woodcrest Airedalers Get-together. That’s a bit of a mouthful so we are calling it B-WAG. It is quick becoming a tradition, so it seemed appropriate. We do hope that you all will attend. We do appreciate having our own little cheering section too!

We will announce further details about the show (specifically what time on Saturday the Airedales will be in the ring) when we have that information, possibly next week. Airedales are usually first thing in the morning, so you can probably plan on sometime between 8am and 10am (and you can bring me coffee too!). Typically everyone watches the Airedales in the ring and then we gather afterward to dogtalk.

Show Date:
Saturday, December 6, 2008

Show Location:
Bayside Exposition Center
200 Mount Vernon Street
Center MDC Area
Boston, MA 02108

You can find more info about this year’s show on InfoDog.

PLEASE NOTE: Do NOT bring your dog(s) to this show. They have had problems with dog theft in the past and are extremely strict about dogs entering and leaving the building. Only dogs that are entered in the show may enter the building and show entry forms are required for each dog leaving the building. They are very strict.

There is a small parking and entry fee at this show.

All are welcome. If you have any questions let us know.

Update – Entry Breakdown
22 Airedale Terriers 5-13(2-2)0
7 Airedale Terriers SWEEPS 4-3(0-0)0

UPDATE: RING TIME IS 9:20AM (SWEEPS) and 9:40AM (Regular Classes) IN RING NUMBER 11

Boston Dog Show (in photos)

June 26, 2008

We were unable to take many photos at the Boston dog shows last December 2007. Fortunately several families with our Airedales visited the shows and took photos here and there. We got a disk containing the following photos from the Sunday show recently from Deb and Bob. Thank you!

We’ve tried to identify the dog(s) in each picture accurately, any mistakes or omissions are unintentional. If you see a mistake or can identify a dog we didn’t please let us know and we will correct the information. Also, we are happy to share higher resolution photos with owners of the dogs pictured, just email us with the request.

After the Airedales were finished in the ring we had a little gathering. Several of our previous and then future puppy buyers had visited on previous days of the show, but the Sunday show was the largest showing. Everyone got to meet Tory and we all discussed various Airedale and puppy related topics. We really enjoy the Boston dog shows especially since it is such a central location to catch up with people we don’t always see. Thank you to everyone who came to see Tory.

Tory went Winner’s Bitch all four days of the supported entry weekend with an entry of 30 Airedales earning four 4 point majors and enough points to finish her Conformation Championship all in one weekend. To top it off she went Best of Opposite on Saturday to Max who retired that day with his 52nd Best In Show win. Our Tory x Max breeding produced 12 beautiful puppies including several show prospects born April 1, 2008. Several of the puppies went to homes with those who visited us at that show.

Again, thank you to Deb and Bob for the pictures and for participating in some great discussions during our gathering after the show. If there were an official title Ambassador of the Airedale, Deb and Bob would certainly own it. Since there isn’t, we will dub them both Woodcrest’s Honorary Ambassador of the Airedale!
